Wild camping and Hiking in Lake Doxa

Lake Doxa is an artificial lake in western Corinthia, Greece. It is situated at an elevation of 900 m, in the municipal unit Feneos, near the village ancient Feneos. Construction was completed in the late 1990s. It is fed and drained by the small river Doxa, which empties into the plain of Feneos. In the heart of the lake on a small peninsula features a small church of Agios Fanourios. The Saint George Monastery in Feneos was relocated to higher ground, north of the lake. The lake is surrounded by pine forests.

The first day, we have climbed mount Pentelia (Dourdouvana) and the second day we have hiked around the beautiful lake Doxa. Also, we enjoyed the pine forest where we also arranged our base camp.

Our camping site was under beautiful high pine trees and we had plenty of shadow during the whole day. Also, from there we were able to realise the night ascent to the top of Mount Pentelia (Dourdouvana).

    1. If you do not mind the mosquitos, then I think you can camp without problem with a floorless shelter like yours. I say about mosquitos, because if there is not a mosquito net, they will find out the way into your shelter.

With regards cockroaches, I have never seen any of them in the woods or mountains, so I guess is a problem of urban areas. Though, what you should perhaps pay more attention to, are scorpions and snakes. This means, that before you set up camp, double check the area if it is a snake and/or a scorpion area. Also, avoid to cook just right next to your shelter because it might attract the attention of serpents.

Having said that, many of my friends, during summer time they just like to sleep without a shelter, but personally, because I am constantly bothered by mosquitos, most of the times I set up a tent.
